Notary process – what to expect?

After agreeing on the sale, a meeting with a notary is scheduled. The notary checks whether all documents are in order and if there are any obstacles to transferring ownership.

At the meeting, you sign the purchase agreement and pay the agreed price or a portion of it. The notary then submits the documents to the cadastre.

Cadastre process – registration in the cadastre

The cadastre is the official office that registers property ownership. After the notary submits the documents, the cadastre reviews them and records the ownership under the buyer’s name.

This process usually takes from a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the workload of the office.

What is important to know?

  • Prepare all documents before the notary meeting

  • Check that all ownership papers are in order and that there are no encumbrances

  • Always read the contract carefully before signing

  • Notary and cadastre fees are usually shared between the buyer and seller, according to the agreement

Most common questions

Buyers often ask whether it is necessary to hire a lawyer. It is not mandatory, but it can be helpful in more complex cases or if you are unsure about the documents.
